Match report

Before the match started Bam talked: Every match is an opportunity and every player needs to use that opportunity by playing hard and with structure.

The weather was nice and sunny.

First half. Helsinki backs were on fire right from the start. Bam started to hit tries. Espoo was not able to defend against strong individual runs made also by Anton, Joonas and Ronan. Tries were made fastly after good and secure passing. Ball handling and passing was overall on a good level.

But there were also some problems with indvidual runs, especially pods were missing many times and we were entering contact too high alone and straight in to Espoo players. There we were losing some balls to Espoo. We tried one time mauling call in the lineout and that worked well. Next match we can use that big guns weapon more. Captain Bam handled all the talking with referee.

On the half time speech the message was clear. We need to get the basic structure working, forwards to work together with support and clearly formed pods. Some progress was made in the second half in these points. The subs were getting in. Bam and the backs continued to run past the Espoo defence. Some forwards, Ofa and John, made breakaway runs too. Finally Bam got 6 tries breaking the club record for most tries in a single championship match. He also scored 10 conversions making it 50 points in total! Vincent and Wertti also got their names on the scoring sheet. Espoo did not stop trying and they continued to play with good spirit. They scored two tries. Also in the second half all the talk and questions about referee decisions were made by captain. We need this to continue. Final score 90-12.
