Match report

It could have been easy to go to Vaasa unprepared and looking to the future - the early morning and long trip along with the fact that a home semi final was already secured could have seen us switching off.

But there was still a lot to play for - eight wins in a row sounded good, upsetting Vaasa’s 100% home record, keeping our 100% away record - and who wanted to sit on a bus for 12 hours for a loss?!

The good spirit in the squad was evident with Alastair having another tough task in selecting 22 from the almost 30 players available.

As we warmed up the ladies got off to a slow start but woke up in the second half to record a convincing 34-0 win over Pori which would, once WRC beat JRC in Helsinki, secure top spot in the league for the ladies team.

Joe opened the scoring with a couple of tries giving HRC a 10-0 lead. Some nice running from Bam saw him also score a couple as HRC secured a bonus point and a 20-0 lead at half time. With the backs putting on some good moves and making progress out wide player of the day Bam scored and Niilo converted to make it 27-0.

Things got a little messy with a couple of yellow cards for HRC to Chris R and Kari and Vaasa managed to get a couple of late tries but it was all too little, too late and HRC won 27-12 securing top spot on the league table for the season with a game in hand!

And so it was back to Helsinki with two teams looking forward to games against Tampere in a week, but also with two teams uncatchable on top of the tables!
