Vaasa saw another really good day for women’s rugby in Finland and for the Helsinki Rugby Club ladies. We dominated our division and went to the semi-finals with a 119-5 points difference, beating Fuusio (44-0), Turku Swans (32-0) and the host team Vaasa Foxes (43-5).
Our team has some really talented players, enough leadership, good pace and a tough attitude - all perfect for 7's rugby, and the nerve to look at what is happening in the game and then move the ball in the right direction. It says a lot about our team that eight out of the squad of ten scored tries and the two who didn’t score performed well in their own really important job as a forward.
In the semi-final we lost against Jyväskylä, but it could have ended the other way too. It was really good to see that the players weren’t satisfied after this result. The passion and hunger is there and we are already a hard opponent for any other team in this country!
The player of the day was Zita Floret - I hope that everyone in the club (men and women) follow her lead and pick up her attitude on the field - hard tackler, agile player who does everything with passion and speed. Jazzy woman and a leader!
