The last game against Lahti did not start the way Lahti had expected. Normally they can just rotate the ball from one side to another and run 50 metres to score but this time they passed a few times and ran against a wall made of blue and white bricks. HRC took the lead by a drop kick penalty by Tony, but the game was still wide open. Lahti did not change their game plan and it started working when HRC started to show hints of tiredness. A few mistakes and Lahti scored 2 tries before the half time.
HRC kept fighting till the end but this time it was not enough. Our boys who had played the whole day with great pride could not use their chances on the second half and Lahti took the well deserved win. However Helsinki Rugby Club had played a long day of beautiful rugby and demonstrated good individual skills with which they will surely challenge Lahti for the win of the next 2nd team tournament. Awesome job guys, it was truly a privilege to play alongside each and every one of you.
After the tournament it was time for a shower and well deserved beers in the centre of Lahti after which everyone was ready to return to the Sink. Some of the players continued the night in downtown Helsinki and some went back home to be fathers, boyfriends and dog sitters. I think I can speak on behalf of everyone that we are all eagerly waiting for the next trip and I hope to see all of you there who couldn’t join us this time.
Captains Player of the Tournament: Eliott, 5 tries and impressive attacking and defending with great self-confidence. Eliott really showed that he can challenge every other scrum half of the team for the position in the 1st XV.
